Just imagine it…sitting down for breakfast in front of a giant bowl of cold, creamy, chocolaty goodness and it’s all good for you, guilt-free, healthy, and vegan. And it’s CHOCOLATE, people!

The ingredients in this smoothie bowl are proven to boost your mood, your energy levels, and your brain function. They are rich in nutrients that help your digestive health, your heart and bone health, and the health of your muscles and nerves. Plus, the antioxidants are anti-aging and keep your skin nice! Win-win-win!

(makes 2 servings, or you can just eat it all yourself, like I do!)

  • 4 bananas, frozen and chopped
  • 2 heaping tablespoons cacao powder
  • 1 T. nut butter (I used peanut butter)
  • 2 medjool dates, or your choice of sweetener (stevia, agave, maple syrup), optional
  • a few ice cubes to make it frosty

Place everything in a small blender or food processor. Depending on how powerful your blender is, you’ll need a few tablespoons of liquid (I used cold coffee, but water or almond milk are good, too). A note about adding sweeteners: I don’t personally add them, as I think the bananas are sweet enough on their own. However, I’ve talked to several people who think that this could use a little more sweetness, so I tried it with dates, and it certainly is delicious this way as well!

You also could leave out the ice, but I love the crunchy texture it adds to this recipe.

Blend until creamy and smooth.

Spoon into bowls and add toppings.

Topping ideas: raw cacao nibs (pictured above), sliced banana, shredded coconut, blueberries, chia seeds, sliced almonds, anything you can think of, really! Be creative!

UPDATE: In my experience, a food processor works the best for making nice cream or smoothie bowls. I have a cheap Black & Decker one, and it does a fine job without having to add too much liquid. Click the picture below for a link to Amazon, if you’d like to get one of your own. 🙂
